What is a hostname?
Posted by admin on 11 September 2009 09:36 PM
The term hostname generally refers specifically to the part of the fully qualified name that does not include the domain name itself. Let's say you owned emergency.com, you might want to have a host on your network called "incaseof". So here, incaseof would be the hostname, emergency.com would be the domain name, and incaseof.emergency.com would be the full, or fully qualified hostname.
